Stefan visited City University in London and wrote about his impressions. The only thing we want to do now is go and visit it as soon as possible.

“This week I visited City University in London as an OK Student University Advisor. This was an amazing opportunity to visit and experience a day at our University partner based in the heart of the “big city”. City’s International Officer Ainsley McIntosh took me around the campus and showed me what makes this University special and how it stands out from others. As I am aware of London traffic and how it can sometimes make you late, I got to City’s campus a little bit earlier before we scheduled the campus tour. That gave me the opportunity to walk around the campus to familiarise myself with the surroundings.

Although the City is located in the middle of busy London (and close to Northern line Tube station), I got a completely different experience from the campus. London rush often cannot be avoided, but for some reason this University succeeds in making the campus vibe much more relaxing. One of the advantages of this University is that everything is in one place, lecture buildings, library, university services, extracurricular activities, etc. There’s also a park between campus buildings, which left quite a strong impression as it was a beautiful spring day in London when I visited. From the outside, University buildings do not look big, but it is a completely different story from the inside. When Ainsley took me inside the main building it seemed that we would be walking forever. Big lecture rooms, very well-equipped seminar and computer rooms, vibrant Student Union and many more are all within two minutes walking distance. The thing that impressed me the most is the number of study spaces this campus has. I have never seen this many study spaces on one campus, which led me to a question why is it like that. Ainsley explained that City University listens to their students, so when students asked for more study spaces, University listened and gave them what they needed. A “student University”, that is how I would call it and the proof is everywhere around you. Just look at how students are smiling and having fun while studying.

What to study at City University?

To begin with, there is the worldwide famous CASS Business School. CASS is part of City University and it is one of the highest ranked business schools in the world. It excels every year and makes this University quite famous for it. When it comes to placements and connections with the industry, CASS puts in a special effort to create those opportunities for students, making them the best possible candidates for a future career in business. Studying business is not the only thing you can do at this University. Their Journalism courses hold high second place in London universities rankings, with some impressive alumnus (a lot of famous journalists attended City). Nursing is also an excellent course at this University, having an entire wing of a hospital replicated for their students. Many different science courses are offered as well and even looking through them I found some new courses I did not know even exist. The most interesting story about City is that 46% of students are Postgraduates and that there are students from over 160 countries, making City a multicultural centre.

Swimming pool library

There is a lot more to say about this University. How it has a library and study spaces in a redesigned old Olympic swimming pool, impressive broadcasting lecture room, music studios, and so much more. Even student life here is outstanding. You have many different sports clubs and societies you can enjoy outside your studies, and the best part is that everything is in one place! Just go to the City campus and you will find everything one student might need. I was very impressed by this University and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to study in London.
