At OK Student we love to listen to what students think about us and our work but also about their experiences and opinion about living in the country.

For this reason, we would like to present to you our new project: Most Popular Student Cities in the UK.

After doing some research, we came up with a list of 10 well-known cities among students, we weren’t surprised when we found out that Coventry was one of the favourite ones.

That’s why we decided to look for someone who could share with us how it is like to live in Coventry. This person is the lovely Ting Chan, an International Officer at Coventry University, who gave us the opportunity of interviewing her.

1. Who are you and what’s your connection to Coventry?

I am Ting Chan, I work as an International Officer at Coventry University.

So you can know a bit more about my role, I do a lot of travelling, meeting students from across the world. Moreover, I help students who are already based in the UK and those who have studied at a Foundation or Boarding School and want to know more about Higher Education.

2. Why is Coventry considered to be a perfect student city?

Its comfortable size and its connections to the larger cities in the UK such as London or Birmingham are some of the factors that make Coventry the perfect student city.

It is like a small bubble in which students can learn and adapt to the UK lifestyle, living and studying in the country. Then, they can start exploring other big cities thanks to the incredible connections previously mentioned.

In addition, it counts with a diverse community, there are students coming from a lot of places in the world. You can take for sure you will find someone from your country. What is more, by joining a society you will get the chance not only of trying new hobbies but also connecting people who have the same interests as you. You will never feel alone.

3. What’s one hidden attraction that students don’t usually know about?

After living for one year and a half in Coventry, I can say that the city has a big beautiful Cathedral. This is the place where normally students start (Welcome Ceremony) and finish (Graduation) their journey.

Moreover, this beautiful building has a lot of history behind it was bombed in World War II when the Germans thought it was one of the manufacturing centres. When you visit it, you note that its architecture is quite special, it mixes both modern and traditional styles. Consequently, it can be said that Coventry’s Cathedral is unique. It is a special place for students.

Beyond this, there are no secrets in Coventry.

4. What’s the best student night out or is there something special for that city party-wise?

At the University there is a building called TheHub. When you go downstairs, in the daytime, it is a coffee shop where students go to do their group work or have their lunches. But, in the night, there is an area which is transformed into a nightclub, you will never have guessed it if you go during the day.

Besides, there is a very renowned club in the city called Scholars. All students love it, they usually go there on Fridays. Alternatively, some students decide to take a train to Birmingham for a quick night out as well.

What is more, no every community decides to go partying to a club, there are some who prefer doing other activities as it can be Karaoke nights. Thus, you will find restaurants that have rooms or karaoke bars in the city.

5. How would you describe Coventry with one sentence?

It’s a small vibrant city, always busy with students.
